Balaam took up his discourse, and said: "From Aram Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains: "Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!'
[But God] has not beheld misfortune in Jacob; nor has He seen trouble in Israel. The LORD their God is with them, and the shout of a king is among them.
The LORD said to me: "Do not fear him, because I have given him and all his people and his land into your hand; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon."
So the LORD our God gave into our hand Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people; and we smote him until no survivor was left to him.
We completely annihilated them, as we did to Sihon the king of Heshbon, destroying every city, men, women, and children [Hiroshima and Nagasaki].
When the LORD your God brings you into the land which you are entering to take possession of it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than yourselves,
and when the LORD your God gives them over to you, and you defeat them, then you must totally destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, and show no mercy to them.
You shall not make marriages with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons,
because they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods; then the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you, and He would destroy you quickly.
But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.
because you are a people holy to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the Earth.
It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the LORD set His love upon you and chose you, because you were the fewest of all peoples;
but it is because the LORD loves you, and is keeping the oath which He solemnly promised to your fathers, that the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of [George, Brit king of England].
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and continual love with those who love Him and retain to obey His commandments, to a thousand generations,
and requites to their face those who hate Him, by destroying them; He will not be slack about them who hate Him, He will requite them to their face.
You shall therefore be careful to do the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you this day.
And the LORD will take away from you all sickness; and none of the evil diseases of [Europe], which you knew, will He inflict upon you, but He will lay them upon all who hate you.
And you shall destroy all the peoples that the LORD your God will give over to you, your eye shall not pity them; neither shall you serve their gods, because that would be a snare to you.
If you say in your heart: "These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?"
you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember what the LORD your God did to [Japan] and to all [jap kamikazis],
the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out; so will the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
Moreover the LORD your God will send hornets among them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you are destroyed.
You shall not be in dread of them, because the LORD your God is among you, a great and terrible God.
The LORD your God will clear away [islamic terrorists] little by little; you may not make an end of them at once, lest the wild beasts grow too numerous for you.
But the LORD your God will give them over to you, and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed.
And He will give their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name perish from under heaven; not a person will be able to stand against you, until you have destroyed them.
The graven images of their gods you shall burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it, because it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
And you shall not bring an abominable thing into your house, and become accursed like it; you shall completely detest and abhor it, because it is an accursed thing.
You shall not follow a crowd to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a suit, turning aside after a mob, so as to pervert justice.
When you come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and you possess it and reside in it, and then say: "I will set a king over me, like all the nations round about me";
you may indeed set as king over you him whom the LORD your God will choose. One from among your countrymen you shall set as king over you; you may not put a [Kenyan-not-Hawaiian-born] foreigner over you, who is not your brother.
You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
He said to his men: "The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my boss, the LORD's anointed, to put forth my hand against him, seeing that he is the LORD's anointed."
This day your eyes have seen how the LORD gave you today into my hand in the cave; and some told me kill you, but I spared you. I said: "I will not put forth my hand against my boss, because he is the LORD's anointed."
But David said to Abishai: "Do not destroy him, because who can put out his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless?"
''The LORD forbid that I should put out my hand against the LORD's anointed, but take now the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let us go."
"The LORD rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness, because the LORD gave you into my hand today, and I would not put out my hand against the LORD's anointed."
David said to him: "How is it you were not afraid to put out your hand to destroy the LORD's anointed?"
And David said to him: "Your blood be upon your head, because your own mouth has testified against you, saying: "I have slain the LORD's anointed."
Inspired decisions are on the lips of a king; his mouth does not sin in judgment.
Righteous lips are the delight of a king, and he loves him who speaks what is right.
A king's wrath is a messenger of death, and a wise man will appease it.
The dread wrath of a king is like the growling of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger forfeits their life.
A king who sits on the throne of judgment winnows all evil with his eyes.
A wise king winnows the wicked, and drives the wheel over them.
Loyalty and faithfulness preserve the king, and his throne is upheld by righteousness.
The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He will.
He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend.
My son, fear the LORD and the king, and do not disobey either of them.
Take away the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
In all, a king is an advantage to a land with cultivated fields.
The word of the king is supreme, and who may say to him: "What are you doing?"
MY dove, in the [secluded privacy of] clefts of the rock, in the covert of the cliff, let me see YOUR face, let me hear YOUR voice, because YOUR voice is sweet, and YOUR face is attractive [NOT see the explicit faces nor hear the sensual voices of harassive sexist feminist newscasters or reporters nor execs who do not belong to me in marriage].
Have every person be subject to the governing authorities, because there is no authority except from God, and those who exist have been instituted by God.
Therefore one who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
Rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,
because he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because he does not bear the [Glock] in vain; he is the servant of God to execute His wrath on the wrongdoer.
Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.
For the same reason you also pay taxes, because authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.
Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
Owe no one anything, except to love one another, because a person who loves their neighbor has fulfilled the Law.
The commandments: "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the Law.
We have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the gifts given us by God.
And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit.
The non-spiritual person does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, because they are folly to them, and they are not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
The spiritual person judges all things, but is themself to be judged by no one.
Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
I fed you with milk, not solid food, because you were not ready for it; and even yet you are not ready,
being that you are still of the flesh, because while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh, and behaving like ordinary individuals?
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit resides in you?
If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy them, because God's temple is holy, and that temple you are.
But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself.
I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.
Therefore do not pronounce judgment ahead of time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then every person will receive their evaluation from God.
Some are arrogant, as though I were not coming to you.
But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will find out not the talk of these arrogant people but their power,
because the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.
What do you wish? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love in a spirit of gentleness?
Let us, therefore, celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the non-leavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I wrote to you in my letter to not associate with immoral persons;
not at all meaning the immoral of this world, nor greedy and robbers, nor idolaters, being that then you would need to go out of the world.
But rather I wrote to you to not associate with any one who bears the name of companion if they are guilty of immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or robber . . . to not even eat with such a one.
God judges those outside. Drive out the wicked person from among you.
To have lawsuits at all against one another is defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?
But you yourselves wrong and defraud, and that even your own neighbors.
Do you not know that the non-righteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor sodomites,
nor thieves, nor greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.
And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
Although there are so-called gods in heaven or on earth -- as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"--
yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
Though I am free apart from all humans, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more.
To the Jews I became as a Jew to win Jews; to those under the Law I became as one under the Law -- though not being myself under the Law -- that I might win those under the Law.
To those outside the law I became as one outside the law -- not being without Law toward God but under the Law of Christ -- that I might win those outside the law.
Give no offense to Jews nor to Greeks nor to the church of God,
just as I try to please all persons in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
Does not nature itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is degrading to him,
but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory, because her hair is given to her for a covering.
If any one wants to be contentious, we recognize no such practice [of letting a woman misregard her loose long hair as a submission-to-male-and-angel-authority prayer covering or veil], nor do the churches of God.
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful;
it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
Now we see in a glass dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.
As in all the churches of the saints,
the women should keep silence in the churches, because they are not allowed to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says.
If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home, because it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
What? Did the word of God originate with you, or are you the only ones it has reached?
If any one thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that what I am writing to you is a command of the Lord.
If any one does not recognize this, they are not recognized.
So, my companions, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not disallow speaking in different languages;
but all things should be done decently and in order.
You were called to freedom, friends, only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for sin-desiring flesh, but through love be servants of one another,
because the whole Law is fulfilled in one phrase: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
But if you bite and devour one another take care that you are not consumed by one another.
I say, walk by the Spirit, and do not gratify the desires of sin-craving flesh,
because the desires of sin-oriented flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the wicked-intentions flesh, opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would.
But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law.
Now the works of sin-investigating flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness,
idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit,
envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like.
I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified sin-searching flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit,
with us having no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another.
Friends, if a person is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore them in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, so that you also are not tempted.
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the Law of Christ
If any one thinks they are something, when they are nothing, they deceive themself.
But let each one test their own work, and then their reason to boast will be in themself alone and not in their neighbor,
because each person will have to bear their own load.
Let one who is taught the word share all good things with him who teaches.
Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, because whatever a person plants, that they will also reap.
They who plant to their own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but they who plant to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Let us not grow weary in well-doing, because in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the heathen do, in the futility of their minds;
they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart;
they have become callous and have given themselves up to [immodest and porno] licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness.
You did not so learn Christ!--
assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus.
Strip off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,
and be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
and dress up with the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with their neighbor, because we are members one of another.
Be angry but do not sin; do not let the Sun go down on your anger,
and give no opportunity to the Devil.
Have the thief no longer steal, but rather let them labor, doing honest work with their hands, so that they may be able to give to those in need.
Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the Day of Redemption.
Have all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice,
and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us -- a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
But fornication and all impurity or covetousness must not even be suggested among you, as is fitting among saints.
Let there be no filthiness, nor silly talk, nor levity, which are not fitting; but instead let there be thanksgiving.
Be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure person, or one who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, because it is because of these things that the wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience.
Therefore do not associate with them,
because once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light
because the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true,
and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them.
It is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret;
but when anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible, because anything that becomes visible is light.
Therefore it is said: "Awake, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light."
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise individuals but as wise,
making the most of the time, because the times are evil.
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
and do not get drunk with wine, because that is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart,
always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord,
because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, and is Himself their Savior.
As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in EVERYTHING to their husbands.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
that He might present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
Even so husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself,
because no man ever hates his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ does the church,
being that we are members of His body.
For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his [gender-specific] wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
This mystery is a profound one, and I purport that it refers to Christ and the church;
however, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Slaves, be obedient to those who are your earthly masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart, as to Christ;
not in the way of eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,
rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to humans,
knowing that whatever good anyone does, they will receive the same again from the Lord, whether slave or free.
Masters, do the same to them, and forbear threatening, knowing that He who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with Him.
Let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you stand firm in one Spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,
and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear omen to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.
It has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in Him but also suffer for His sake,
engaged in the same conflict which you saw and now hear to be mine.
Do nothing from selfishness nor conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Let each of you look not only to their own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Do all things without grumbling or questioning,
that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish within a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
holding fast the Word of Life, so that in the Day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
Many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, live as enemies against the cross of Christ.
Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.
But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
who will change our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power which enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth,
like you have died, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
On account of these the wrath of God is coming.
In these you once walked, when you lived in them.
But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth.
Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have denuded yourself of the old nature with its practices
and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator.
Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free person, but Christ is all, and in all.
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience,
forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Above all attire yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ reside in you richly, teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
And WHATEVER you do, in word or work, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.
Children, obey your parents in everything, because this pleases the Lord.
Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord.
Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not people,
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you are serving the Lord Christ,
because the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong they have done, and there is no partiality.
We also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is: THE Word of God, which is at work in you believers.
Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you,
and may the Lord make you bountifully increase in love to one another and to all, as we do to you.
Regarding love of the company you have no need to have anyone write to you, because you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another,
and indeed you do love all the friends throughout Macedonia. But we implore you, companions, to do so more and more,
to aspire to live quietly, mind your own affairs, and work with your hands, as we ordered you,
so that you may receive the respect of outsiders, and be dependent on nobody.
We implore you, friends, admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.
See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all.
The mystery of lawlessness is already at work, only He who now restrains it will do so until He has withdrawn.
Then the lawless one will be revealed, and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of His mouth and destroy him by His appearing and His coming.
The coming of the lawless one by the activity of Satan will be with all power and with pretended signs and wonders,
and with all wicked deception against those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
Therefore God sends upon them a strong delusion, to make them believe what is false [Hillary will win],
so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, companions beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
Pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may speed on and triumph, as it did among you,
and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil persons, because not all have faith.
The aim of our charge is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith.
Certain persons by swerving from these have wandered away into vain discussion,
desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make assertions.
Now we know that the Law is good, if any one uses it lawfully,
understanding this, that the Law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for godless and sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
immoral persons, sodomites, kidnapers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,
in accordance with the glorious gospel of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
Women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in decent apparel, not with plaited hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing
but by good works, as befits women who profess religion.
Have a woman learn in silence with all subjection.
I allow NO woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent,
because Adam was formed first, then Eve;
and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.
Yet woman will be saved by bearing children, if she continues in faith and love and holiness, with sobriety.
Command and teach these things.
Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Until I come, attend to the PUBLIC reading of scripture, to preaching, to teaching.
I would have younger women marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the enemy no cause to revile us.
Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, nor participate in another man's sins; keep yourself pure.
Have all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be defamed.
Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are comrades; rather they must serve all the better being that those who benefit by their service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these duties.
If any one teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness,
they are puffed up with conceit, they know nothing; they have a morbid craving for controversy and disputes about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions,
and wrangling among those who are depraved in mind and bereft of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of selfish profit.
Guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the godless chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called [scientific] knowledge,
because by professing it some have missed the mark regarding the faith.
Have nothing to do with stupid, senseless controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.
And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kindly to every one, an apt teacher, forbearing,
correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth,
and they may escape from the snare of the Devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
In the last days there will come times of stress.
People will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters against good,
treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
holding the form of religion but denying the validity of it. Avoid such people.
Among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and swayed by various impulses,
who will listen to anybody and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
Those oppose the truth, persons of corrupt mind and counterfeit faith,
but they will not get very far, because their foolishness will be plain to all.
To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and disbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are corrupted.
They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works; they are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good deed.
Bid the older women to be reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to drink; they are to teach what is good,
and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be sensible, chaste, domestic, kind, and submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be discredited.
Likewise urge the younger men to control themselves.
Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, stability,
and sound speech that cannot be censured, so that an opponent will be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us.
Bid slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to be refractory,
nor to pilfer, but to show entire and true fidelity, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior,
because the grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all people,
training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world,
awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
who gave Himself for us to redeem us away from all iniquity and to purify for Himself a people of His own who are zealous for good works.
Declare these things; exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
Avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, because they are unprofitable and futile.
As for a person who is factious, after admonishing them once or twice, have nothing more to do with them,
knowing that such are perverted and sinful; they are self-condemned.
I preferred to do nothing without your consent so that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own free will.
Take care, comrades, lest there be in any of you an evil, disbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
But remind one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin,
because we share in Christ, if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end,
while it is said: "Today, when you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."
If we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a Sacrifice for sins,
but a fearful prospect of Judgment, and a fury of Fire which will consume the adversaries.
Strive for peace with all people, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
See to it that no one fail to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness spring up and cause trouble, and by it the many become defiled;
that no one be immoral nor irreligious like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal.
You know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, because he found no opportunity to repent, though he sought it with tears.
Have marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be non-defiled, because God will judge the immoral and adulterous.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, because He has said: "I will never fail you nor reject you."
Hence we can confidently say: "The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid; what can humans do to me?"
Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God; consider the outcome of their life, and imitate their faith.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings.
Obey your leaders and submit to them, because they are keeping watch over your souls, as men who will have to give account. Let them do this joyfully, and not sadly, else that would be of no advantage to you.
Know this, my comrades. Let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,
because the anger of humans does not work the righteousness of God.
Therefore put away all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
If any one presumes that they are religious, and does not bridle their tongue but deceives their heart, that person's religion is vain.
Do not speak evil against one another, comrades. One who speaks evil against a neighbor or judges his neighbor, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
There is one Lawgiver and Judge, He who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you that you judge your neighbor?
Do not grumble, comrades, against one another, that you may not be judged; hey, the Judge is standing at the doors.
Dress up your minds, be sober, set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance,
but as He who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct,
being that it is written: "You shall be holy, because I am holy."
And if you invoke as Father Him who judges each one impartially according to their works, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile.
Dear friends, I beg you as aliens and exiles to abstain from [lurid] passions of the flesh that wage war against your soul.
Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good works and glorify God on the Day of Visitation.
Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,
or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right,
because it is God's will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish individuals.
Live as free persons, yet without using your freedom as a pretext for evil, but live as servants of God.
Honor all persons. Love the assembly. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the kind and gentle but also to the overbearing.
You have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.
He committed no sin; no deceit was found on His lips.
When He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He suffered, he did not threaten; but He trusted to Him who judges justly.
Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him "sir" and you are now her children if you do right and let nothing terrify you.
Likewise you husbands, live considerately with your wives, bestowing honor on the woman as the weaker gender, being that you are joint heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers are not hindered.
Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love of the comrades, a tender heart and a humble mind.
Do not return evil for evil or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, because to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing.
Whoever would love life and see good days, have them keep their tongue from evil and their lips from speaking deceit,
have them turn away from evil and do right; have them seek peace and pursue it,
because the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
The end of all things is at hand; therefore keep sane and sober for your prayers.
If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or wrongdoer, or mischief-maker,
yet if one suffers as a Christian, let them not be ashamed, but under that name let them glorify God,
because the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God, and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
And if the righteous person is scarcely saved, where will the impious and sinner appear?
Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will do right and entrust their souls to a faithful Creator.
You who are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He will exalt you.
Place all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.
Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your comrades throughout the world.
False prophets rose up among the people, as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
Many will follow their [indecent] licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled.
The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the non-righteous under punishment until the Day of Judgment,
especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. Bold and willful, they are not afraid to revile the glorious ones.
These, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and killed, reviling in matters of which they are ignorant, will be destroyed in the same destruction with them,
suffering wrong for their wrongdoing. They consider it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their dissipation, carousing with you.
They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin, entice unsteady souls, have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!
They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, because whatever overcomes a person, to that they are enslaved.
The heavens and earth that now exist have been stored up for fire, being kept until the Day of Judgment and destruction of godless persons.
You therefore, dear friends, knowing this beforehand, beware lest you be carried away with the error of lawless individuals and lose your own stability.
They who hate their neighbor are in darkness and walk in darkness, and do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded their eyes.
They went out from us, but they were not of us, because if they had been of us, they would have continued with us, but they went out, that it might be plain that they all are not of us.
By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of the Devil: whoever does not do right is not of God, nor they who do not love their neighbor.
This is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,
and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother.
And why did he murder him? Because his own works were evil and his brother's righteous.
Do not wonder, brethren, that the worldly hate you.
We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the saints.
He who does not love resides in death.
Anyone who hates his neighbor is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
Comrades, let us love one another, because love is of God, and one who loves is born of God and knows God.
One who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
If any one says: "I love God," and hates his neighbor, they are a liar, because they who do not love their neighbor whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen.
Look to yourselves, that you may not lose what you have worked for, but may win a full reward.
Anyone who goes ahead and does not stay in the doctrine of Christ does not have God; they who stay in the doctrine have both the Father and the Son.
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive them into the house [even by broadcast TV or radio or internet] nor give them any greeting,
because whoever greets them [allowing them to invade the premises even by radio or TV or internet] shares their wicked work.
Admission has been secretly gained by some who long ago were designated for condemnation, godless persons who pervert the grace of our God into [indecent-exposure obscene] licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Now I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that He who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
And the angels that did not keep their own position but left their proper dwelling have been kept by Him in eternal chains in the nether gloom until the Judgment of the Great Day,
as those in Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, who likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, are an example by undergoing a punishment of Eternal Fire.
Yet in similar manner these perverts in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile the glorious ones.
It was of these also that Enoch in the seventh generation from Adam prophesied, saying: "The Lord came with His holy myriads,
to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the godless of all their works of godlessness which they have committed in such a godless way, and of all the harsh things which godless sinners have spoken against Him."
These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own passions, loud-mouthed boasters, flattering people to gain advantage.
But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who said to you: "In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own godless passions."
They are those who [divisively] cause misunderstandings, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.
But you, comrades, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit;
keep yourselves in the love of God; wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
